Adult Dosing

Prevention of dental caries

• GEL, PASTE, CREAM
• Apply thin ribbon to a toothbrush and brush thoroughly for 2 minutes qd, preferably at bedtime; expectorate after brushing

• RINSE
• 5-10 mL PO qd; swish for 1 minute without swallowing, then expectorate
• Use immediately after brushing or flossing teeth

Note:

• Do not eat, drink, or rinse mouth for 30 minutes after using sodium fluoride

Pediatric Dosing

• Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients <6 yrs have not been established

• Not intended for systemic treatment; do not swallow
• Continuous daily ingestion may result in varying degrees of dental fluorosis in young children <6 yrs of age, particularly if water fluoridation exceeds 0.6 ppm. Use with caution in pediatric patients to prevent repeated swallowing which could cause dental fluorosis
• Supervise use in children; avoid use in children unable to expectorate content
• Product may cause irritation if there is any gum diseases; withhold therapy if irritation occurs
• Do not use fluoride topical if fluoride level in drinking water is greater than 0.7 ppm
• Keep out of reach of infants and children
• Promptly seek medical attention or contact a Poison Control Center if more than used for rinsing is accidentally swallowed

Cautions: Use cautiously in

• Renal impairment
• Pediatric patients <12 yrs
• Mucositis
• Low-sodium diet
• Peptic ulcer disease
• Severe joint pain

Supplemental Patient Information

• Advise caregivers or guardians to supervise the use of sodium fluoride in pediatric patients (<12 yrs) to prevent repeated swallowing
• Advise patients not to eat, drink, or rinse mouth for 30 minutes after using this product

Pregnancy Category:B

Breastfeeding: Safety unknown. It is unknown whether fluoride is excreted in human milk. Manufacturer advises caution.
