- Delay the administration of rotavirus vaccine in infants suffering from acute diarrhea or vomiting as safety and effectiveness of rotavirus vaccine in infants with chronic gastrointestinal disorders have not been evaluated
- Shedding of rotavirus in stool occurs after vaccination with peak excretion occurring around day 7 after dose 1, leading to transmission of live vaccine virus to non-vaccinated contacts

Breastfeeding: Rotavirus vaccines are used only in infants and not in women of childbearing age. Breastfeeding protects infants against acute gastroenteritis caused by rotavirus, however can affect the immune response of an infant to rotavirus vaccines depending on the maternal anti-rotavirus antibody titer. Withholding breastfeeding for up to 2 hours before and after vaccine administration would likely minimize the interference based upon LactMed database (available at http://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/htmlgen?LACT last accessed 18 Jan 2011).
