Adult Dosing

Prophylaxis of Thromboembolism after Cardiac Valve Replacement

• 75-100 mg PO qid, as an adjunct to warfarin or aspirin

Pediatric Dosing

• Safety and effectiveness in the pediatric population have not been established

• Adjunctive treatment to reduce the risk of blood clots after heart valve replacement

• Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of the product

Renal Dose Adjustment

• Renal impairment: No dose adjustments

Hepatic Dose Adjustment

• Hepatic impairment: Use with caution, dose adjustments not defined

• Dipyridamole has a vasodilatory effect, hence can aggravate chest pain in patients with underlying coronary artery disease. Use cautiously in these patients
• Dipyridamole can cause elevation of hepatic enzymes and hepatic failure
• Dipyridamole produce peripheral vasodilation and can lead to hypotension, use cautiously in patients with hypotension

Pregnancy Category:B

Breastfeeding: As dipyridamole is excreted in human milk, manufacturer advises caution while administering to nursing woman.

• CNS: Dizziness, headache
• CV: Hypotension, chest pain, angina pectoris
• GI: Liver dysfunction, elevated hepatic enzymes, abdominal distress, diarrhea, vomiting
• DERM: Rash, flushing, pruritus

• Platelet aggregation inhibitor; inhibits both adenosine deaminase and phosphodiesterase, preventing the degradation of cAMP, an inhibitor of platelet function. Also increase the intraplatelet concentration of cAMP by directly stimulating the release of prostacyclin, thus further inhibiting platelet aggregation
• Metabolized by liver
• Excreted in bile
• Half-life: 10 hrs
