Adult Dosing

Ocular itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis

• Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) qd (Pataday)
• Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) bid at an interval of 6-8 hours (Patanol)

Pediatric Dosing

• Safety and effectiveness of Pataday have not been established in pediatric patients <2 yrs of age
• Safety and effectiveness of Patanol have not been established in pediatric patients <3 yrs of age

• >3 yrs: Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) bid at an interval of 6-8 hours (Patanol)

• Indicated for topical use only and not for oral use or injections
• Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface, including the eyelids or surrounding areas, to prevent contamination of the solution. Keep the container tightly closed
• If more than one topical ophthalmic drug is being used, the drugs should be administered at least 5-10 minutes apart
• Not recommended to treat contact lens related irritation
• Instruct patients who wear soft contact lenses and whose eyes are not red to wait at least 10 minutes before inserting their contact lenses following instillation of the eye drops

Supplemental Patient Information

• Instruct patients to remove contact lenses prior to instillation of olopatadine eye drops
• Advise patients not to wear a contact lens if their eye is red after instilling olopatadine eye drops

Pregnancy Category:C

Breastfeeding: Olopatadine is not expected to cause any adverse effects in breastfed infants because absorption from the eye is limited. To substantially diminish the amount of drug that reaches the breastmilk after using eye drops, place pressure over the tear duct by the corner of the eye for 1 minute or more and remove the excess solution with an absorbent tissue. • CNS: Headache
• RESP: Increased cough, pharyngitis
• GI: Nausea, taste perversion
• DERM: Pruritus
• NEURO: Asthenia
• MUSC: Back pain
• MISC: Flu syndrome, infection

• H1-receptor antagonist; selectively binds to the histamine H1 receptor, thereby blocking the action of endogenous histamine leading to temporary relief of the negative symptoms brought on by histamine. Also demonstrates decreased chemotaxis and inhibition of eosinophil activation

• Metabolism: Liver
• Renally excreted (60-70% unchanged)
