Adult Dosing
Prevention and relief of postoperative ocular inflammation
- Instill 1-2 gtt into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s) qid
- Start 24 hrs after surgery and continue for the first 2 wks of the postoperative period
Anterior uveitis
- Instill 1-2 gtt into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s) q1 hr x 7 days during waking hours, then 1 gtt q2 hrs x 7 days during waking hours and taper the dose until uveitis is resolved
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established

- Rimexolone is for topical ophthalmic use only and not for injection
- Use cautiously in the treatment of herpes simplex infection; monitor the patient with frequent slit-lamp examinations
- Prolonged use may result in ocular hypertension or glaucoma, damage to the optic nerve, defects in visual acuity and visual fields, and posterior subcapsular cataract formation. Monitor IOP in patients receiving the drug for
10 days - Prolonged therapy may result in secondary ocular infections due to suppression of host response
- Acute purulent infections of the eye may be masked or exacerbated by the presence of steroid medication
- In diseases causing thinning of the cornea or sclera, chronic use of topical steroids may lead to perforation
- Long-term local steroid application is associated with the development of fungal infections of the cornea. Consider fungal invasion in any persistent corneal ulceration where a steroid has been used or is in use
- Advise patients to avoid touching the dropper tip to eyelids or to any other surface in order to prevent contamination
- Initial prescription and renewal of the drug beyond 14 days should be made by a physician only after examining the patient with the help of slit-lamp biomicroscopy and where appropriate, fluorescein staining
- Reevaluate the patient if signs and symptoms do not improve after 2 days of treatment
