- Exclude other possible causes of infertility; complete pelvic examination including cervical cytology is mandatory prior to treatment. To avoid inadvertent administration during early pregnancy, pelvic examination and basal body temperature must be recorded and patient carefully observed to determine ovulation
- Perform pregnancy test and pelvic examination prior to each course
- Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) has been reported in patients receiving clomiphene alone or in combination with other gonadotropins. It has also been associated with ectopic pregnancy and multiple pregnancy
- To minimize the hazard of abnormal ovarian enlargement, give minimal possible dose; maximal ovarian enlargement may not occur untill several days of stopping treatment
- Risk of ectopic pregnancy, multiple pregnancies and pregnancy loss
- Blurring of vision or other visual symptoms may occur. Patients should be cautioned against performing hazardous tasks like driving or operating machinery
- Instruct patients to report any abdominal/pelvic pain, weight gain, discomfort or distension promptly

- Uterine fibroids (may cause further enlargement of fibroids)
- Sensitivity to pituitary gonadotropins (polycystic ovarian syndrome)

- Patients should be advised that blurring or other visual symptoms may occur and must be warned against performing hazardous tasks like driving and operating machinery
- Patients should be advised to seek consultation on experiencing abdominal/pelvic pain or distention, multiple pregnancy, and pregnancy wastage and birth anomaly risks
