Adult Dosing
Osteoarthritis
- 1500 mg PO bid; alt: 3000 mg PO qhs
- 750 mg PO tid in geriatrics
Rheumatoid arthritis
- 1500 mg PO bid; alt: 3000 mg PO qhs
- 750 mg PO tid in geriatrics
Mild-moderate pain
- 1500 mg PO bid
- 2000-3000 mg/day PO div bid-tid in geriatrics
Fever
- 2000-3000 mg/day PO div bid-tid
Pediatric Dosing
Juvenile idiopathic arthritis
- 12-37 kg: 50 mg/kg/day PO div bid
- >37 kg: 2250 mg/day PO div bid-tid
Mild-moderate pain
- 12-37 kg: 50 mg/kg/day PO div bid
- >37 kg: 2250 mg/day PO div bid-tid
Inflammation
- 12-37 kg: 50 mg/kg/day PO div bid

- Rare occasions of serious Reye's Syndrome may occur in children and teenagers having chicken pox, influenza, or flu symptoms. This drug is not recommended for use in children and teenagers with chicken pox, influenza or flu symptoms
- Increased risk of adverse GI events, including stomach bleeding may occur with concomitant use of alcohol
- Cross reactivity, including bronchospasm, is associated with use of this drug
- Concomitant use of other salicylate-containing products and choline magnesium trisalicylate may lead to increase in plasma salicylate concentration and result in potentially toxic salicylate levels
- Periodically assess plasma salicylate levels during therapy with this drug
- Monitor pain relief and temperature after administration of this drug. On development of tinnitus, flushing, tachycardia, hyperventilation, sweating or thirst, withhold this drug

- Concurrent use with diuretics
- Use of ACEI or ARB
- Use of alcohol
- Smokers
- Asthma
- Prolonged use
- Elderly
- Debilitated patients
Pregnancy Category:C
Breastfeeding: Safety unknown; Potential for significant salicylate absorption by the nursing infant exists; exercise caution when this drug is administered to a nursing woman.
