Hypogonadotropic Hypogonadism In Males

• 500-1000 U IM 3 times weekly x 3 wks, followed by the same dose twice a week for three weeks
• Alt: 4,000 U IM 3 times weekly x 6-9 months, following which the dosage may be reduced to 2,000 USP U IM 3 times weekly for an additional three months

Induction of ovulation and pregnancy in the anovulatory, infertile woman

• 5000-10,000 U IM x1 one day following the last dose of menotropins

Pediatric Dosing

Prepubertal cryptorchidism not due to anatomical obstruction

• 4,000 U IM 3 times weekly x 3 wks
• 5,000 U IM qod x 4 doses
• 500-1000 U IM x 15 over 6 wks
• 500 U IM 3 times weekly x 4-6 wks
• If this course of treatment is not successful, another is begun one month later giving 1,000 USP Units per injection

• Should be used in conjunction with human menopausal gonadotropins only by physicians experienced with infertility problems who are familiar with the criteria for patient selection, contraindications, warnings, precautions and adverse reactions
• Therapy may cause ovarian hyperstimulation, rupture of ovarian cysts with resultant hemoperitoneum, multiple births and arterial thromboembolism
• Anaphylaxis and other hypersensitivity reactions have also been reported
• In patients treated for cryptorchidism, induction of androgen secretion by HCG may induce precocious puberty. Suspend therapy if signs of precocious puberty occur
• Use with caution in patients with cardiac or renal disease, epilepsy, migraine or asthma, as androgens may cause fluid retention
