Hypoglycemia due to hyperinsulinism
- 3-8 mg/kg/day PO divided q8-12 hrs. Start: 3 mg/kg/day PO divided q8 hrs
- Max: 8 mg/kg/day PO divided q8-12 hrs
Pediatric Dosing
Hypoglycemia due to hyperinsulinism
- 0-23 months: 8-15 mg/kg/day divided q8-12 hours. Start: 10 mg/kg/day PO divided q8 hrs

- Fluid retention and precipitation of congestive heart failure may occur due to antidiuretic property of diazoxide in patients with compromised cardiac reserve
- Therapy may cause ketoacidosis and nonketotic hyperosmolar coma usually during concomitant illness. Administer appropriate therapy and prolonged monitoring should be done following the acute episode
- Events of transient cataracts occurred in association with hyperosmolar coma in an infant have been reported with the therapy
- Chronic use (> 4 years) may cause abnormal facial features in children
- Initiate therapy under close clinical supervision with careful monitoring of blood glucose and clinical response until the patient's condition has stabilized
- Monitor hematopoietic system and the level of serum uric acid in patients with hyperuricemia or a history of gout
- Appropriate dosage adjustments should be made as necessary in individual patients if changed from one formulation to the other
- Therapy may enhance antihypertensive effect of other drugs. Administer cautiously when administering in combination with antihypertensive agents
- Caution advised when treating newborns with increased bilirubinemia as therapy may possibly displace bilirubin from albumin

- Promptly report abnormal findings and unusual symptoms to the physician
