Breastfeeding: Safety unknown; no formal studies for the use of topical tretinoin during breastfeeding have been conducted. Due to minimal systemic absorption following topical administration, it is considered a low risk to the nursing infant. Infant's skin should not come in direct contact with the areas of the skin that have been treated. Apply only water-miscible cream products to the breast because ointments may expose the infant to high levels of mineral paraffins via licking. This information is based upon LactMed database (available at http://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/htmlgen?LACT last accessed 16 June 2011). For use of tretinoin (Renova) manufacturer advises to postpone therapy in nursing mothers until after completion of the nursing period. For use of tretinoin (Altralin, Avita, Retin-A, Retin-A Micro) in nursing mothers manufacturer advises caution.
