• Hypersensitivity to any ingredients of the product
• Acute intermittent porphyria
• Allergic or idiosyncratic reactions to meprobamate or related compounds such as carisoprodol, mebutamate, tybamate, or carbromal

• May precipitate seizures in epileptic patients

Breastfeeding: While nursing, other agents may be preferred because there is little data with meprobamate during breastfeeding. According to the manufacturer’s data, administration of meprobamate should be avoided in lactating women.

• CNS: Drowsiness, ataxia, dizziness, slurred speech, headache, weakness, paresthesias, impairment of visual accommodation, euphoria, overstimulation, paradoxical excitement, syncope, vertigo
• PSYCHIATRIC: Physical dependence, psychological dependence, drug abuse
• CV: Palpitation, tachycardia, various forms of arrhythmia, transient ECG changes, hypotensive crisis
• GI: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
• HEMA: Agranulocytosis, aplastic anemia, thrombocytopenic purpura, leukopenia, acute nonthrombocytopenic purpura, eosinophilia
• DERM: Rash, erythema multiforme, exfoliative dermatitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome and bullous dermatitis, petechiae, ecchymoses
• HYPERSENSITIVITY: Allergic reactions, anaphylaxis
• RESP: Bronchospasm
• MISC: Fever, exacerbation of porphyric symptoms, peripheral edema, adenopathy

• Anxiolytic, produces CNS depression at multiple sites in thalamus and limbic system
