• Use carefully as sulfonamides are absorbed from the vaginal mucosa
• Closely monitor patients for skin rash or evidence of systemic toxicity, and if a rash develops, discontinue therapy
• Oral sulfonamides have been associated with deaths from hypersensitivity reactions, agranulocytosis, aplastic anemia, and other blood dyscrasias
• Oral sulfonamides have rarely been associated with goiter production, diuresis, and hypoglycemia
• Vaginal applicators or inserters should be used with caution in 3rd trimester of pregnancy

Breastfeeding: Avoid use in nursing mothers because absorbed sulfonamides may appear in maternal milk and cause kernicterus in the newborn. Because of the potential for serious adverse reactions in nursing infants from sulfonamides, a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug.
