Adult Dosing
Envenomation caused by coral snake bite
- 30-50 mL slow IV injection into the tubing of a freely flowing IV solution of 0.9% NaCl injection. The first 1-2 mL should be administered over 3-5 minutes to monitor for evidence of allergic reaction

- Some patients may require administration of the contents of 10 or more vials to neutralize the venom dose injected by the biting snake

- Prior to the administration of antivenom coral snake, skin test should be performed, interpreted, and careful review of the patient's history of prior exposure to horse serum or any allergies should be taken and modify the therapy if indicated
- For skin test, inject 0.02-0.03 mL of a 1:10 dilution of normal horse serum or antivenin into the skin, appearance of urticarial wheal with or without pseudopodia and surrounding erythema in 5-30 minutes suggest positive reaction
- Antivenom coral snake should be administered only by a health care provider experienced in use of antivenom and treatment of severe, immediate, systemic reactions (anaphylaxis) associated with its use
- Use of beta-adrenergic blockers, including cardioselective agents can increase the severity of acute anaphylaxis

- Hypersensitivity to horse serum
- Concomitant use of sedatives
