Adult Dosing
Treatment of known or suspected ethylene glycol or methanol intoxication
- Initial dose of 15 mg/kg IV followed by 10 mg/kg q12 hrs x 4 doses, then 15 mg/kg q12 hrs until ethylene glycol or methanol concentration is <20 mg/dL and patient is asymptomatic with normal pH
- Give by slow IV infusion over 30 mins

Treatment of known or suspected ethylene glycol or methanol intoxication

- Give by slow IV infusion over 30 mins
- Should not be given undiluted or by bolus injection; venous irritation and phlebosclerosis were noted
- May cause minor allergic reactions (mild rash, eosinophilia); monitor patients for signs of allergic reactions
- Perform electrocardiography as acidosis and electrolyte imbalances may affect cardiovascular system
- Transient increases in serum transaminase concentrations and eosinophilia have been reported with repeated dosing. Hence, monitor hepatic enzymes and white blood cell counts during treatment
- Patients poisoned w/ ethylene glycol should be monitored for ethylene glycol concentrations in serum and urine, and presence of urinary oxalate crystals at frequent intervals throughout the treatment; similarly, monitor serum methanol concentrations
