Active immunization against Japanese encephalitis virus

Primary immunization

• 0.5 mL IM x 2 doses 28 days apart
• Series should be given at least 1 week to potential exposure

Booster

• For patients with ongoing or expected re-exposure, give 0.5 mL booster dose x 1 if primary series given >1 year previously

Pediatric Dosing

• Safety and effectiveness in infants <2 months of age has not been estalished

• 2 months to 3 years
• 0.25 mL IM x 2 doses 28 days apart

• >3 years
• 0.5 mL IM x 2 doses 28 days apart

• Series should be given at least 1 week to potential exposure

Booster

• Safety and effectiveness not established for patients <17 years of age

• Active immunization for the prevention of disease caused by Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV)

• Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of the product, including any other Japanese virus vaccine
• Hypersensitivity to protamine sulfate

• The vaccine contains protamine sulfate which is known to cause hypersensitivity reactions in some individuals. Keep approprate medical care readily available in the event of anaphylactic reaction

Breastfeeding: It is unknown whether the vaccine is excreted in breast milk. Manufacturer advises caution when administering to nursing women. According to CDC and several health professional organizations, vaccines given to a nursing mother do not affect the safety of breastfeeding for mothers or infants.
