Adult Dosing

Surgical hand scrub

• Apply 5 mL onto wet hands and forearms and rub into a copious lather by adding small amounts of water; scrub well with a wet brush for 3 minutes
• Rinse thoroughly with running water and dry
• For repeat surgical scrubs during the day, scrub thoroughly with the same amount for 3 minutes; rinse thoroughly with water and dry

Bacteriostatic cleansing

• Dispense 5 mL onto wet palm, work up a lather with water and apply to area to be cleansed; rinse thoroughly after each washing

Pediatric Dosing

• Used to control an outbreak of gram-positive infection where other infection control procedures have been unsuccessful

• Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of the product
• Burned or denuded skin
• As an occlusive dressing, wetpack, or lotion
• Routinely for prophylactic total body bathing
• Routinely for bathing infants
• Patients with primary light sensitivity to halogenated phenol derivatives
• As a vaginal pack or tampon or on any mucous membranes

• Rapid absorption may occur with resultant toxic blood levels of the drug when applied to skin lesions such as ichthyosis congenita, dermatitis of Letterer-Siwe's syndrome, or other generalized dermatological conditions. Application to burns may produce neurotoxicity and death
• Infants, especially premature infants or those with dermatoses are more susceptible to hexachlorophene absorption
• Promptly discontinue therapy on occurrence of signs/symptoms of cerebral irritability
• Incidence of dermatitis, irritability, generalized clonic muscular contractions, and decerebrate rigidity have developed in infants following application of 6% hexachlorophene powder
• Avoid contact with eyes; if accidental contact occurs, rinse with water immediately
• Rinse thoroughly after each use, particularly in sensitive areas such as scrotum and perineum
• Do not pour into measuring cups, medicine bottles, or similar containers as it may be mistaken for baby formula or other medications

• Advise patients not to use this product on burned/denuded areas, as an occlusive dressing/wetpack/lotion, routinely for prophylactic total body bathing, as a vaginal pack, or on any mucous membranes, on persons with sensitivity to any of its components or who have demonstrated primary light sensitivity to halogenated phenol derivatives, or routinely for bathing infants
• Advise patients to discontinue therapy and contact a physician if irritation, sensitization, or allergic reactions occur during therapy

Pregnancy Category:C

Breastfeeding: As per manufacturer's data, because of the potential for serious adverse reactions in nursing infants, a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug, analyzing the importance of the drug to the mother.
