Adult Dosing
Hypertension
- Initial: 15 mg/day PO given as a single dose
- Titrate: Increase to 30 mg/day, then to 45-50 mg/day as per response
- Range: 15-50 mg/day; Max: 50 mg/day, 25 mg/day in elderly
- Note: Some patients respond to treatment on alternate days or on 3-5 days each wk
Edema
- Initial: 30-60 mg/day PO or 60 mg/day given on alternate days
- Range: 90-120 mg/day; Max: 200 mg/day
Pediatric Dosing
Edema [Not FDA approved]
- 1-2 mg/kg Po qd; Alt: 2 mg/kg/dose thrice a week
- Max: 50 mg/day
Hypertension [Not FDA approved]
- 1-2 mg/kg Po qd; Alt: 2 mg/kg/dose thrice a week
- Max: 50 mg/day

- Use with caution in severe renal impairment; risk of azotemia
- Use with caution in hepatic disease or progressive renal disease; minor alterations in electrolyte and fluid balance can precipitate hepatic coma
- Hypersensitivity may occur in patients with or without history of allergy or bronchial asthma
- Dose-related hypokalemia, hyponatremia and hyperchloremic alkalosis have occurred
- Determine serum electrolytes before initiating therapy and at periodic intervals
- Monitor for signs of fluid or electrolyte imbalance viz hypokalemia, hyponatremia and hypochloremic alkalosis. Use lowest possible dose to achieve desired response

- Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
- Post sympathectomy
- Geriatric Population
- Volume depletion
- Seizure disorder

- History of gout
