Adult Dosing
Moderate to severe dry eye syndromes, Exposure keratitis, Decreased corneal sensitivity, Recurrent corneal erosions
- 5 mg insert in each eye qd; certain patients may require twice daily use for optimal results
Notes:- Insert into inferior cul-de-sac of the eye beneath the base of the tarsus, not in apposition to the cornea, nor beneath the eyelid at the level of the tarsal plate
- Improper positioning may lead to expulsion of the insert into the interpalpebral fissure, and may cause symptoms of a foreign body
- Refer to the package insert for detailed instructions
Pediatric Dosing

- Instructions for inserting and removing of hydroxypropyl cellulose insert should be carefully followed
- Advise the patients to promptly follow the instructions accompanying the package insert. Improper placement of the insert may result in corneal abrasion; caution advised
- Cases of transient blurring of vision have been reported after insertion of this product; instruct patients to exercise caution when operating hazardous machinery or driving a motor vehicle
- Product may be inadvertently expelled from the eye, particularly in patients with shallow conjunctival fornices. Caution patients against rubbing the eye containing the insert, especially upon awakening, so as not to dislodge or expel the insert
- Instruct patients to inspect the conjunctival sac to ensure proper positioning of the insert, deep in the inferior cul-de-sac of the eye beneath the base of the tarsus, if a significant worsening of symptoms occurs. Advise patients to remove the insert and contact their physician if such symptoms persist
Supplemental Patient Information
- Advise patients to read the instructions included in the package insert and to practice insertion and removal until proficiency is achieved
- Instruct patients to avoid rubbing the eye containing the insert, especially upon awakening, to avoid expulsion of the insert from the eye
- Instruct patients to inspect the conjunctival sac to ensure proper positioning of the insert (deep in the inferior cul-de-sac of the eye beneath the base of the tarsus) if a significant worsening of transient blurred vision develops. Advise patients to remove the insert and contact their physician if such symptoms persist
