Adult Dosing

Bacterial Conjunctivitis

• Day 1 and 2: Instill 1-2 drops in affected eye q2-4 hrs
• Days 3-7: Instill 1-2 drops qid

Bacterial Corneal Ulcer

• Day 1 and 2: Instill 1-2 drops in affected eye q30 mins while awake, awaken at approximately 4-6 hrs after retiring and instill 1-2 drops
• Day 3 through 7: Instill 1-2 drops q1 hr while awake
• Continue with 1-2 drops in affected eye/s qid until ulcer resolves

Pediatric Dosing

Bacterial Conjunctivitis

Children 1 yr

• Day 1 and 2: Instill 1- 2 drops in affected eye q2-4 hrs
• Days 3-7: Instill 1-2 drops qid

Bacterial Corneal Ulcer

Children 1 yr

• Ophthalmic solution should not be injected subconjunctivally, nor should it be introduced directly into the anterior chamber of the eye
• Serious and occasionally fatal hypersensitivity (anaphylactic) reactions have been reported, even following a single dose
• Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms
• Discontinue use immediately at the first sign of rash or allergic reaction
• Avoid contaminating the applicator tip with material from the eye, fingers or other source
• Ofloxacin opthalmic may cause blurred vision; do not drive, operate machinery, or perform other hazardous activities if blurred vision occurs

Supplemental Patient Information

• Avoid contaminating the applicator tip with material from the eye, fingers or other source
• Advise patient to discontinue medication immediately and contact physican at the first sign of a rash or allergic reaction

Breastfeeding: Safety not established; however, systemic absorption is negligible. Maternal use of ofloxacin opthalmic presents negligible risk for the nursing infant. • EENT: Decreased/blurred vision, ocular pain/discomfort, stinging, redness, itching, chemical conjunctivitis/keratitis, ocular/periocular/facial edema, photophobia, throat irritation, tearing, dryness, eye pain
• CNS: Dizziness
• GI: Taste disturbance, diarrhea, dyspepsia, nausea
• MISC: Fever, infection, superinfection

• Anti-infective; inhibits bacterial DNA synthesis by inhibiting DNA gyrase in susceptible bacteria
• Systemic bioavailability is negligible after opthalmic use
• Systemically absorbed ofloxacin is metabolized by the liver to desmethyl ofloxacin and ofloxacin N-oxide
• Primarily renally excreted (70-90% unchanged); bile (4-10%)
• Half life: 5-7 hrs
