Adult Dosing
Pain associated with interstitial cystitis
- 100 mg PO tid, taken with water 1 hr before or 2 hrs after meals. Max: 300 mg/day
Note:
- Reassess the patients after 3 months of treatment; may continue therapy for an additional 3 months if improvement does not occur and if limiting adverse events are not observed
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients <16 yrs have not been established

- Patients undergoing invasive procedures or having signs and symptoms of underlying coagulopathy, or other increased risk of bleeding should be evaluated for hemorrhage
- Rectal hemorrhage has been reported in patients receiving pentosan polysulfate; bleeding complications of ecchymosis, epistaxis, and gum hemorrhage have occurred during therapy
- Before initiating therapy, patients with aneurysms, thrombocytopenia, hemophilia, gastrointestinal ulcers, polyps, or diverticula should be evaluated carefully because of the drug's weak anticoagulant property
- Alopecia has been reported with the use of pentosan polysulfate and heparin products

- Hepatic impairment
- History of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia
- Anticoagulant use
- Coagulation disorder
- Splenic disorders

- Caution patients that the drug has a weak anticoagulant effect, which may increase bleeding time
