- Products made from human plasma may contain infectious agents, such as viruses and Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) agent that can cause disease. The risk of transmission of an infectious agent may be reduced by screening plasma donors for prior exposure to certain viruses, by testing for the presence of certain current virus infections, and by inactivating and/or removing certain viruses
- Signs and symptoms of certain viral infections, particularly hepatitis C, may develop in individuals who receive infusions of blood or plasma products
- Risks and benefits of this product should be discussed with the patient before prescribing or administering it
- Avoid using turbid or frozen solution of blood or plasma products
- Do not begin administration >4 hrs after the container has been entered; discard partially used vials
- Rapid infusion of this product may produce hypotension in patients undergoing surgery or in the preoperative or postoperative period. Monitor blood pressure during therapy; slow or stop infusion if sudden hypotension occurs
- Plasma protein fraction does not provide coagulation factors and therefore does not correct coagulation disorders
