Treatment of cyclic heavy menstrual bleeding

• 1300 mg PO tid x 5 days during monthly menstruation. Max: 5 days

Pediatric Dosing

Treatment of cyclic heavy menstrual bleeding

• Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients <18 yrs have not been established

• Cyclic heavy menstrual bleeding

• Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredient of the product
• Active thromboembolic disease
• History of thrombosis or thromboembolism
• Intrinsic risk of thrombosis or thromboembolism

Renal Dose Adjustment (Based on Serum Cr)

• 1.4-2.8 mg/dL: 1300 mg bid x 5 days
• 2.8-5.7 mg/dL: 1300 mg PO daily x 5 days
• >5.7 mg/dL: 650 mg PO daily x 5 days

Hepatic Dose Adjustment

• Hepatic impairment: Dose adjustments not defined

• Anaphylactic shock and severe allergic reactions have been reported
• Concomitant therapy with hormonal contraceptives may further increase the risk of blood clots, stroke, or myocardial infarction hence women using hormonal contraception should use tranexamic acid only if there is a strong medical need and the benefit of treatment will outweigh the potential increased risk of a thrombotic event
• Arterial and venous retinal occlusion has been reported. Discontinuation may be warranted.
• Immediately discontinue use if visual or ocular symptoms occur
• Discontinue the treatment in case of severe allergic reaction
• Tranexamic acid should not be administered concomitantly with Factor IX Complex concentrates or Anti-inhibitor coagulant concentrates as the risk of thrombosis may be increased
• Cerebral edema and cerebral infarction may be caused by use of tranexamic acid in women with subarachnoid hemorrhage

Cautions: Use cautiously in

• Renal impairment
• Concomitant therapy with all- trans retinoic acid in acute promyelocytic leukemia

Pregnancy Category:B

Breastfeeding: Safety unknown, tranexamic acid is present in the mother’s milk at a concentration of about one hundredth of the corresponding serum concentrations hence used during lactation only if clearly needed. Manufacturer advises caution.
