Adult Dosing
Hypokalemia, electrolyte replacement [Based on normal daily requirement]
- 40-80 mEq/24 hrs IV at a maximum infusion rate of 1 mEq/kg/hr
Notes:- Dilute the injection before use
- Individualize dose and rate of infusion based on needs of the patient
- May be administered as intraosseous infusion when IV access in not readily available
Pediatric Dosing

- Newborn
- 2-6 mEq/kg/24 hrs IV at a maximum infusion rate of 1 mEq/kg/hr
- Children
- 2-3 mEq/kg/24 hrs IV at a maximum infusion rate of 1 mEq/kg/hr

- Dilute the injection before use
- Solutions containing potassium must be infused slowly to avoid risk of potassium intoxication. Monitor ECG continuously during therapy
- Serum potassium levels may not accurately indicate potassium levels in tissue
- Use cautiously in patients with hyperkalemia, renal failure and conditions involving potassium retention
- Acetate solutions must be used with caution in patients with metabolic or respiratory alkalosis and severe hepatic insufficiency
- High levels of potassium in plasma may result in fatal cardiac depression, arrhythmias or arrest. Use with caution in patients with cardiac disease, especially digitalized patients

- Severe hepatic insufficiency
- Mild-moderate renal insufficiency
- Potassium retention
- Hyperkalemia
- Metabolic/respiratory alkalosis
- Cardiac disease
- Premature neonates
