Adult Dosing
Superficial infections of the external auditory canal
- Insert a cotton wick saturated with acetic acid into the ear canal; the wick may be saturated after insertion; instruct the patient to keep the wick in for 24 hrs and to keep it moist by adding 3-5 drops of solution q4-6 hrs
- May remove the wick after 24 hrs but the patient should continue to instill 5 gtt of solution tid-qid daily thereafter, for as long necessary
Note:
- Prior to initiation of therapy, remove all cerumen and debris to allow for direct contact of acetic acid with infected surfaces
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients <3 yrs of age have not been established
