- Rare cases of anaphylaxis/anaphylactoid reactions have been reported with the use of this vaccine. Appropriate medical treatment and supervision should be readily available to manage possible anaphylactic reactions following vaccine administration
- Use a separate, sterile syringe and needle or a sterile disposable unit for each patient to prevent the transmission of infectious agents from person to person. Dispose the needles appropriately; do not recap
- Use of syringes containing natural rubber latex and dry natural latex rubber may cause allergic reactions in latex-sensitive individuals
- Administration of vaccine may cause syncope (fainting) accompanied by transient neurological signs such as visual disturbance, paresthesia, and tonic-clonic limb movements; hence procedures to avoid falling and restore cerebral perfusion must be in place
- Prior to immunization, review the patient's current health status and immunization history of the patient for possible vaccine sensitivity and previous vaccination-related adverse reactions to allow an assessment of benefits and risks
- Use cautiously in patients with bleeding disorders such as hemophilia or thrombocytopenia and in patients on anticoagulant therapy
- Vaccine administration should be delayed in individuals with moderate or severe acute febrile illness unless they are at immediate risk of hepatitis A or B infection
- Vaccine may not prevent hepatitis A or hepatitis B infection in individuals with unrecognized hepatitis A or hepatitis B infection at the time of vaccination; also, it may not prevent infection in individuals who do not achieve protective antibody titers

Breastfeeding: Hepatitis A: As per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and several health professional organizations, vaccines administered to a nursing mother do not affect the safety of breastfeeding for mothers or infants and breastfeeding is not a contraindication to the hepatitis A vaccine. Breastfed infants should be vaccinated as per the routine recommended schedules. Hepatitis B: As per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and several health professional organizations, vaccines administered to a nursing mother do not affect the safety of breastfeeding for mothers or infants and breastfeeding is not a contraindication to the hepatitis B vaccine. Hepatitis B vaccine is safely administered directly to newborn infants. Breastfeeding appears to reduce infant side effects associated with routine childhood immunization. Breastfed infants should be vaccinated according to the routine recommended schedules.
