Pregnancy/Breast Feeding

Pregnancy Category:C

Breastfeeding: Rotavirus vaccines are used only in infants and not in women of childbearing age. Breastfeeding protects infants against acute gastroenteritis caused by rotavirus, however can affect the immune response of an infant to rotavirus vaccines depending on the maternal anti-rotavirus antibody titer. Withholding breastfeeding for up to 2 hours before and after vaccine administration would likely minimize the interference based upon LactMed database (available at http://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/htmlgen?LACT last accessed 18 Jan 2011).
