Adult Dosing
Prevention of motion sickness
- 1 patch behind ear q3 days prn; apply at least 4hrs before travel
Prevention of post-op nausea/vomiting
- Apply 1 patch behind ear evening before surgery or 1hr before cesarean section
Note: 1 patch releases 1 mg of scopolamine over 3 days.
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established

- Monitor glaucoma therapy in patients with chronic open-angle glaucoma, adjust dose during use of scopolamine as mydriatic effect may increase intraocular pressure
- Prohibit use in children
- Rare idiosyncratic reactions have occurred even with ordinary therapeutic doses of scopolamine
- Skin burns have occurred in patients wearing an aluminized transdermal systems during a magnetic resonance imaging scan, remove the system before undergoing an MRI
- Bradycardia, hypotension, muscle weakness, equililbrium disturbance have occurred on discontinuing
- Interferes with the gastric secretion test
- Increase risk in elderly of CNS effects, elevated intraocular pressure, urinary retention, constipation
- Potential aggravation of psychosis with history
- Pyloric obstruction
Use cautiously in:
- Renal impairment
- History of seizures
- Hepatic impairment
- Cardiac disease
- Arrhythmias
- Pyloric obstruction
- Urinary bladder neck obstruction
- Intestinal obstruction
- History of psychosis
- Open angle glaucoma
- Hyperthyroidism
- Pulmonary disease
- Autonomic neuropathy
- Use of anticholinergic
- Geriatrics
Supplemental Patient Information
- Caution patients about engaging in activities requiring mental alertness like driving a motor vehicle or operating dangerous machinery as drowsiness, disorientation and confusion may occur
Pregnancy Category:C
Breastfeeding: Safety unknown; information is unavailable on the use of scopolamine during breastfeeding. Prolong use of drug results in reduction of milk production or milk letdown. A single systemic or ophthalmic dose is unlikely to interfere with breastfeeding. On prolong use observe for signs of decreased lactation such as insatiety and poor weight gain.
