Adult Dosing

Gingivitis

• Rinse with 15 mL of undiluted solution for 30 seconds bid; expectorate after rinsing, do not swallow

Periodontitis

• 2.5 mg (1 chip) inserted into periodonted pocket with probing depth at least 5 mm, every 3 months
• Max: 8 chips may be inserted in a single visit

• Safety and effectiveness in pediatric population have not been established

• Safety and effectiveness have not been established for patients with acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis
• May cause tooth staining, dental deposits, parotitis and alterations of taste perception
• For maximum effectiveness, the patients should avoid rinsing their mouths, eating or drinking for about 30 minutes after using chlorhexidine
• Calculus deposits should be removed by a dental prophylaxis at intervals not greater than six months
• Serious allergic reactions including anaphylaxis have been reported during postmarketing setting of this drug
