Fold Change

The fold change is the ratio of the IC50 of the patient's virus to that of the wild type. Mathematically this is calculated as:

Fold Change = IC50 patient's virus / IC50 wild type

IC50 patient's virus is defined as the drug concentration required to inhibit replication of the patient's virus by 50%.

IC50 wild type is defined as the drug concentration expected to inhibit replication of 50% of "wild type" drug sensitive virus.

Interpretation:

<1: The patient's virus is more susceptible than the wild type drug sensitive virus

1: The patient's virus exhibits the same susceptibility as the wild type drug sensitive virus

>1: The patient's virus is less susceptible than the wild type drug sensitive virus
