Topical Assess lesions prior to and periodically during therapy.
Monitor for local irritation and allergic reaction. If localized reaction occurs, discontinue bacitracin.

Topical Apply small amount of ointment to clean, affected area; may be covered with a sterile bandage.
Patient/Family Teaching⬆⬇
Explain purpose and side effects of medication. Advise patient to read Patient Information before starting therapy.
Advise patient to notify health care professional of all Rx or OTC medications, vitamins, or herbal products being taken and to consult health care professional before taking other medications.
Instruct patient to use only on minor cuts or burns. Do not use on eyes, animal bites, puncture wounds, serious burns, or deep cuts.
Inform patient to notify health care professional if rash or local irritation occurs or if condition persists or worsens.
Advise patient to use only as long as prescribed; prolonged use may cause overgrowth of resistant organisms.
OB: Advise patient to notify health care professional if pregnancy is planned or suspected or if breastfeeding.
