Therapeutic Classification: antineoplastics

Pharmacologic Classification: CAR T-cell therapy

Indications ⬆ ⬇

High Alert

Action ⬆ ⬇

  • B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA)–directed genetically modified autologous T-cell immunotherapy that involves genetically modifying a patient’s own T cells to equip them with chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) to identify and eliminate BCMA-expressing malignant and normal cells. Upon binding to BCMA-expressing cells, the CAR transmits a signal to promote T-cell activation, proliferation, and secretion of inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, which ultimately leads to death of BCMA-expressing cells.
Therapeutic effects:
  • Improved progression-free survival.

Pharmacokinetics ⬆ ⬇

Absorption: IV administration results in complete bioavailability.

Distribution: High distribution in the bone marrow.
