What is the prognosis?
- Depends on stage, site, and etiology:
- Most common cause of death in successfully treated head and neck cancer is development of a second primary (occurs in 20%–40% of cases)
- HPV+ tumors have better prognosis
- Tongue: 20% to 70% survival
- Floor of mouth: 30% to 80% survival
