Lorne Blackbourne Col. Lorne Blackbourne, MD, is the commander of the United States Army Institute for Surgical Research, co-located in San Antonio with Brooke Army Medical Center, where Dr. Blackbourne serves as chief of the surgical research and burn surgery service. Dr. Blackbourne has provided surgical care in Iraqand afghanistan and in support of Special Operations Forces.
