Because these incisions are identical to those performed for hand compartment release, dissection should proceed bluntly through the muscular fascia if there is concern about hand compartment syndrome. Dorsal incisions should overlie the second and fourth metacarpals. Midaxial incisions should be on noncontact digit surfaces and avoid the volarly positioned neurovascular bundle.
