Vital signs, including pulse, blood pressure, respirations, pulse oximetry, and temperature, should be measured. Pain assessment should also be considered. Patient education, including self-care measures after discharge, should be included in patient teaching. Follow-up care, including when to contact the physician and what to do in the case of an emergency, should be reinforced in the discharge instructions.
