Tumescent literally means swollen. First, small incisions are made at the surgical site and the area undergoing liposuction is made swollen by the infiltration of a solution consisting of Lactated Ringer’s, lidocaine, and epinephrine. The liposuction occurs by connecting cannulas to suction for aspiration (Kucera et al., 2006; Rohrich, Leedy, Swamy, Brown, & Coleman, 2006).
