Advantages of endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR) and thoracic aortic aneurysm (TEVAR) include shorter hospital stays and decreased early mortality. The procedures are usually considered minimally invasive procedures when compared to open repair; the incisions are smaller and are usually in the groin. Disadvantages of EVAR and TEVAR include the cost of the stent grafts and the costs associated with follow-up. The aneurysm is excluded but not gone, so the patient will require lifetime monitoring with MRA, CT scan, or ultrasound to check stent graft placement and monitor for aneurysm sac growth. A contraindication includes anatomy being unfavorable for stent repair because of either access, the site of the aneurysm, or its configuration.
