The role of the perianesthesia nurse is critically important to a successful outcome following replantation because the replanted digit will require careful observation for an extended period of time. The perfusion of the digit should be monitored for 48 hours by inspection of the color of the fingertip and capillary refill. The replanted part should be elevated and kept warm. A heater and glow lamp may have to be used to aid in maintaining normothermia (Beasley, Aston, Bartlett, Gurtner, & Spear, 2007; Beris et al., 2009).
