It behooves patients to be transported with a responsible adult when being discharged from extended observation. Being discharged to the care of a responsible adult provides the patient and family with the reinforcement of self-care instructions, including whom to contact in case of an emergency (ASPAN, 2014; Schick & Windle, 2016).
