  • These patients are often critically ill and require ventilatory support and aggressive fluid resuscitation. Use of vasopressors may increase visceral ischemia . Maintain normothermia.
  • Control arrhythmias and treat tachycardia.
  • Maintain adequate blood pressure.
  • Monitor fluids and electrolytes including lactate levels.
  • Monitor for signs of compartment syndrome which may occur if the abdomen has been closed primarily.
  • Deterioration of the patient’s condition may be due to multisystem failure as well as graft thrombosis.
