Complications occurring acutely, possibly manifesting themselves in the recovery room, include corneal abrasions and vision-threatening retrobulbar hemorrhage. Such complications require immediate attention and may require the assistance of an ophthalmologist. The intermediate and late complications occurring between weeks 1 through 6 and beyond include lid malposition, strabismus, dry eye, and corneal exposure; changes in eyelid height, scarring, and edema represent later findings (Lelli & Lisman, 2010).
