Vision changes, excessive pain, bleeding, or swelling are important clinical clues to early postoperative complications that may result in permanent blindness. The plastic surgeon should be alerted in these circumstances. The normal postoperative course will include the elevation of the head and application of ice to reduce swelling, and management of pain. An ophthalmic ointment may be ordered by the surgeon to alleviate dryness of the eye (Lelli & Lisman, 2010).
