Abdominoplasty literally means plastic surgery of the abdomen, which includes a broad spectrum of procedures and involves surgical correction of abdominal deformities involving lax muscle or skin. The panniculectomy procedure involves the direct removal of the pannus or apron deformity such as that seen in hyper-morbid obesity or in massive weight loss, which includes redundant skin and adipose tissue. Muscles damaged from laxity or previous abdominal surgeries may also be repaired with abdominal muscle plication (Logan & Broughton, 2008; Rothrock & McEwen, 2006; Burns & Blackwell, 2007).
