A clear dressing or very small occlusive dressing without antimicrobial ointment should be applied to the site, and direct observation and palpation for hematoma should be performed to assess the site. Site should be monitored every 15 minutes for the first hour, then every 30 minutes for the next 2 hours, then hourly until ambulation. The site should be checked directly after ambulation and every 15 to 30 minutes until discharge or transfer.
