Assess from the lateral hip to the medial groin for swelling, severe bruising, numbness, tingling, or severe pain. Repositioning of the hip and/or knee with a roll or pillow will reduce pressure on the femoral nerve and/or sciatic nerve on the patients dorsal side. Offload the heel with a device or pillow to avoid a pressure ulcer. Reduction of shear stress and offloading reduces pressure points. Retroperitoneal bleeding may occur gradually with vague signs and symptoms; therefore, frequent assessments are of utmost importance.
