Answer
Back - At least six air changes per hour (ACH), with at least two of these ACH from outside air, are required in most states for the PACU (FGI, 2014, Table 7.1 Design Parameters).
- Fresh air intakes must be located at least 25 feet from any exhaust output and at least 6 feet from ground level. Prevailing winds should be taken into consideration when locating both air intakes and the exhaust output.
- Semiannual monitoring is usually adequate to ensure appropriate ACH in a stable facility. In a facility undergoing construction or demolition, more frequent monitoring of ACH must be accomplished and should be undertaken on a schedule determined by personnel knowledgeable in air handling in a healthcare facility, such as Facilities Management and Infection Prevention and Control personnel.
- High-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters are not required for a PACU.
