Laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication is usually done when a patient has failed to respond to previous medical treatment. It is a fairly uncommon procedure as only a small percentage of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) patients need surgical attention. GERD is usually controlled or treated by basic anti-reflux regimen of antacids and a specific diet (Ignatavicius & Workman, 2015).
