Once all nonsurgical options have failed, the surgical treatment of choice for Crohns disease patients is the resection (partial or total) of the diseased area. The procedure can be performed as minimally invasive surgery (MIS) via laparoscopy, which leaves the patient with less scaring and a more manageable postoperative pain. Both small bowel resection and ileocecal resection can be achieved using this procedure (Ignatavicius & Workman, 2015).
