Airway compromise may occur in certain mandibular fractures because of the loss of support to the posterior oropharynx. Airway management is critical. Pain is also very important to manage. With open wounds and after surgery, perioral hygiene with mouth rinses is important (Doherty, 2010; Quinn & Schick, 2004; Burns & Blackwell, 2007).
