Patients with uterine, ovarian, and cervical cancer commonly have pelvic lymphadenectomy (lymph node removal) procedures (Hoffman et al., 2012i). This procedure is one of the hallmarks of surgical staging for these conditions and includes complete removal of all nodal tissue in a defined area. Typically, a minimum of 4 pelvic nodes, and up to 11 nodes from multiple sites, will be removed. Enlarged nodes may be removed for debulking and to improve survival benefit in some cancers. These procedures may be accomplished with open or laparoscopic approaches. In addition, staging procedures include the removal of the omentum.
